What's with all the fonts? Well since this entire thing (blog/art/Berlin/life) is an experiment, I might as well start out in that spirit. I have a few friends who are font junkies, and I always feel guilty when I admit to myself that I don't know anything about fonts. It's one of those things that a self-proclaimed Renaissance Man ("junzi bu qi") should be versed in, after all. Oh well, another part of the endless experiment is being okay with not being able to do everything. The fonts above are the generic ones I'm offered. For now, then, I'm going with Georgia--if their font is as good as their peaches and/or borscht, then I'm set.
Font dealt with, next? Actually, it goes back before that. My best friend Regina is a thorough researcher, fantastically so. If she's going to buy, start, study, invest in, eat, or otherwise interact with a new widget, she is going to intimately know every possible path to that widget ahead of time (at the best price, no less). I have traces of that in me, but the contents of my crucible are always just a few grains short of lasting the duration. So then starting a blog (experiment) for the current phase of my life (experiment) in Berlin (experiment) became yet another Thing I Must Research. Wordpress? Moveable Type? Expression Engine? And that brings up all the issues of hosting, and so on. Meanwhile, I'm trying to live my life here and tell folks about it at the same time (as the burden of friend/family/acquaitance guilt-tripping gets tiresome, so I attempt to deliver). Thus I take the Ikea route to blogging and try to be okay with that for now.

As I start my fourth week here in Berlin, I'm confronted with endless versions of what font, what blog, what Kiez ('hood), what bier, what art, what yoga, what sleep, what adventure, what path should I choose. The life of the semi-perfectionist is forever plagued by learning to be okay with the Ikea version of anything. The pressure is definitely both internally and externally derived. People want me to do certain things and be a certain way, based either on what they know of me or what they need of me; too, I demand a great deal from myself. That's why so much of the move to Berlin is about allowing the scheduling and the results to be what they are, rather than having expectations--mine or those of others--be in charge.
Long blog, short blog, flashy, plain, pictures, words, daily, weekly, rarely???
I will experience things in Berlin. You will hear about them. We both need to be patient, with everything.
